Upton Vale Bikers

Trip to Cardiff to see Dave and Sue Hibbin, on the weekend of 25th-26th September 2010. Overnight stop in Cardiff. Distance 337 miles. Ten bikes and three pillions. No motorways at all on the way up, not one!

March run down to Looe via Launceston, and back along coast road via Seaton, Antony and Torpoint Ferry. Home via old Plymouth road and Totnes. Stupendous weather!

May run to BCB Bike Show in Bristol. Lovely weather - better than expected. Steve Hyde shows some amazing abilities in the traffic in Bristol, but we're not saying what exactly. All Show profits went to FreeWheelers, the bike based emergency service for blood and so on.

On July 14th twelve biking pals of Steve Hyde decided to drop in on his "family" dinner to celebrate his 60th birthday. Unknown to him, his dear wife had let us in on the secret, and we were only too willing to find a good reason for a ride and pint to help the celebrations along. Congratulations Steve!

The original trip was planned to be a mass ride to visit a UV friend in Newquay, but for various reasons turned into a small group recce for good roads to use in the future. Take our advice, never go to Newquay in a car! Us, well, bikes are built for filtering and overtaking aren't they? Hopefully the original trip plan will go ahead sometime in 2012, and we now know some great roads to use!

Day trip out to Padstow on the Bank Holiday Monday. Not that much traffic and so a feeling that maybe petrol prices and general economics are affecting tourism. Weather was warm and sunny - great! A superb day out, albeit with Pete getting a little confused over which bike he brought with him!? Can't think why, he's a "cruiser" man through and through, so why did he mix it with a sports? Must be the sun, he wasn't wearing his hat!

Seven of us were led by Sam on a half-day ride out to Exmouth and Budleigh Salterton. The route was all on A or B roads (or less!) and took us on a round trip through Teignmouth, Exminster, Exmouth (brunch), Budleigh Salterton, Newton Poppleford, Countess Wear, Haldon Forest, Chudleigh and Newton Abbot. A good, dry day, being back in plenty of time before the rain started. Many thanks to Sam, especially for his choice of brunch stop, which Abby said had to be "guaranteed" (!!) and we weren't about to argue with her.

"New Year's Day" ride on the 2nd January. Don't ask! A bit damp underfoot and a little chilly, but a bright sunny day and a dry run. Down to Plymouth for breakfast and back home via Widecombe-in-the-Moor. Some had a 2nd breakfast there, as well as a much-needed warm drink, but we won't mention any names (. . . Colin). Excellent start to the year.

Run to Great Torrington and back. The day had been forecast as wet but we had a dry run on fabulous biking roads all day. Contented bikers, we stopped off at Speed Motorcycles in Exeter for a final coffee and fond farewell. This was probably our downfall!
